NB High School Football: 12-man Championship Preview

12 man

The Tantramar Titans have been the main story line of the 12 man division all season long and coach Scott O’Neal’s troops are getting ready to host yet another championship game on Saturday. The Titans finished with a perfect 6-0 record and a look at their points for (275) and against (8) makes the season even more impressive. The Titans come into this game as a heavy favourite for good reason.

Their opponent, the Riverview Royals enjoyed a solid season finishing with a 4-2 record. The season had plenty of great moments, and also featured some games versus certain teams that were much closer than we expected. The Royals upset the Titans last season in the regular season, showing that it is in fact possible to beat them. Let’s break down the contest and see who should come away with the crown.

From a coaching perspective, the Royals have some creative minds on that sideline that are more than capable of coming up with a plan to potentially shut down the Titans high powered offence. However, Tantramar have so many weapons that many think the Royals are simply not athletic enough to execute that plan. I expect to see the Royals come out with plenty of pressure on Quarterback Justin Vogels, and try to force some turnovers. On the offensive side for the Royals, I think we see offensive coordinator Peter Comeau dig deep into his bag of tricks and get some long plays against the stud Tantramar defence. The Royals should come out throwing the ball on Saturday and really try and spread that defence out. They have a Quarterback in Logan Grossman that can really throw the ball and could potentially cause issues for his opponents on Saturday.

Tantramar will come out pounding the ball as usual with their workhorse running back Oliver Longpre. Coach O’Neal has the comfort of knowing that his rushing attack has yet to be stopped this season and he has been able to control the clock with their trademark long drives that usually end with 7 points. The Titans have never changed what they do and I would be shocked to see them change it with the success they have had this year. On the defensive side of the ball, I think we see the Titans do what they do as usual and that is dominate the line of scrimmage. They are a team that really shuts down the run and forces teams to become one dimensional. The Royals will need to avoid this situation at all cost if they want have any success on Saturday Another thing they cannot afford is any turnovers at all.

The Picks

It is now time to see what our 3 high school football analyst foresee happening in this game. I hope we see a hard fought, and memorable final. They met once this season already that ended in a Titans victory by the score of 58 to 1. I think we see a Royals team that is a lot hungrier and this game ending up a lot closer. Here is what the analyst think will happen on Saturday.

Pistol Pete (57-16): “Titans 35-21”
Mister Freeze (55-18): “Royals 21-20”
Coach Zen (60-13): “Titans 49-17”
