Asset management and acquiring draft picks and prospects is foundational for any rebuild.

One only has to look at the monumental return Thibeau and his staff have accumulated since the “Jakob Pelletier Trade” that really started it all at June’s QMJHL Draft.

Obviously, Thibeau and his scouting staff started from scratch after emptying the cupboards building what could have been one of the franchise’s best Wildcat teams of all time.

Thibeau’s manoeuvring at the Draft was truly remarkable. Unfortunately, two main Wildcat draft picks didn’t report which could have set the rebuild back considerably, but Thibeau and his staff moved on injecting other prospects into lineup.

The unexpected return of Gabriel Fortier caused some issues surrounding the Cats overage situation, but it also landed a 3rd round draft choice, which by all accounts could turn into a 1st rounder given trade stipulations around games played.

Thibeau’s latest move has landed a franchise goaltender in Vincent Fillion.

There’s no question Ritchie Thibeau and his staff are building a championship caliber core in hopes of making a monumental run at a President Cup and Memorial Cup in the near future.
