Sea Dogs Ready to Name Coach?

Trevor Georgie and the Saint John Sea Dogs are ready to name their new man behind the bench.

At of 8:56 am this morning, I received a text message from a reliable source. “Heard SJ will be announcing a coach soon. A former NHL player, but I don’t know who.”

We know Georgie and the organization have been swinging for the fences to land a high-profile coach.  We just don’t know who?

Back to Back Aspirations and Veteran Presence

There’s no question Georgie’s Sea Dogs have all the makings of a team that could go back to back.

Given the names that have surfaced recently like Dave Cameron and Craig MacTavish, it would appear Georgie and the Sea Dogs organization are looking for an older/veteran coach with NHL playing experience and coaching experience.

Obviously, there’s a lot of candidates out there that fit that bill.

It would also appear that Georgie is content keeping Jeff Cowan and Stefan Legein in place.

The hockey world is a very small world, so one could automatically assume or speculate that Georgie would be looking for an instant connection with both of them.

Trust me got a workout this morning.

Sea Dogs Head Coaching Criteria

NHL player…….Check.

NHL coach…….Check.

CHL coaching experience…..Check.

Familiarity with both Legein and Cowan…..Check.

Mississauga, Ontario’s own Greg Gilbert checks off all the boxes. Gilbert coached both Cowan and Legein. Don’t believe me look it up.

Greg Gilbert’s resume speaks for itself.

Gilbert is a veteran of 900 NHL games, has nine years of coaching experience at the AHL level. Gilbert has NHL coaching experience in the NHL with the Flames from 2001 to 2003. He also has eight year’s experience at the CHL level.

Greg Gilbert would be a very logical fit in the Port City.

It remains to be seen what direction Georgie and Sea Dogs take behind the bench, but there’s no question Greg Gilbert fits all the criteria.
