Moncton or Quebec?
The hockey world leaks like sieve, but things remain tight when it comes to tomorrow’s Memorial Cup announcement.
When the usual suspects or the QMJHL Insiders (Mikael Lalancette, and Stephane Leroux) took to X to announce the committee will be making an announcement tomorrow at 12 Eastern, speculation grew, but like Doug Collins said in “The Last Dance” when asked about Phil Jackson being ready to be a Head Coach in the NBA, Collins responded quipped, “just sense.”
There’s a strong sense that the City of Moncton will be named Memorial Cup hosts in 2028, but there’s no confirmation and all the sources I spoke to this afternoon hadn’t heard a thing either. It remains to be seen how the QMJHL will elect to announce the winner tomorrow, nonetheless, there’s no one around here in Moncton, because the team headed out this morning for a three game in Quebec.

As for the Remparts bid and hopes to host the Memorial Cup one would assume the organization left nothing to chance, so it would appear it’s been a very tight race throughout the process, but the quickness of the announcement raised a lot of eyebrows. A decisive vote and selection announcement even though the committee just visited Moncton last week doesn’t provide much clarity either, but from what I have heard through the grapevine is the Wildcats bid presentation was something to behold.

Arguably the Quebec Remparts are ahead of the Wildcats from an on ice perspective based on their current group and team projections for 2028. Nevertheless, just like the game of hockey itself, everything is unpredictable just like tomorrow’s announcement.
There’s a “sense” the 2028 Memorial Cup host will be the Moncton Wildcats, but there’s nothing concrete to confirm that at this time. So fans of the QMJHL and two amazing hockey city’s wait with bated breath for tomorrow’s announcement.
