“High profile” players are expected to deliver, that’s what makes them “high profile.” However, the definition or “high profile” tag or label isn’t what it used to be.
So what does it take to be “high profile” player?
You see “high profile” players still have to deliver, they’re counted on and heavily relied on to deliver every time out. Some do, some don’t, Some are still figuring that all out.
All of the best “high profile” players find a way. Nevertheless, one variable that exists amongst all of the best “high profile” players is their work ethic.

That is one aspect that separates “high profile” “want to be’s” from the legit game breakers.
You can be a big name, highly touted, garner all of the attention and have tons of notoriety and buzz behind your name and style of play but you still have to work. Sure some “high profile” have dominating attributes that they rely on, but all of the best “high profile” players aren’t at their best until they understand what it takes for them to be a legitimate difference maker.
That shit takes time to figure out.
Some players figure it out right away, others feel and experience it in spurts, and there are some players that constantly search for it, knowing full well it’s within them, but they can’t seem to find it when it matters most.
Obviously, “high profile” players have to work, but they also have to be consistent. Consistency is the key. Everyone gets excited when a “high profile” player comes to town, and everyone wants to see what they can really do, some leave the game disappointed others leave in awe.
You see what a “high profile” player does on a Wednesday night on the road might not be what they do on Saturday night at home.
Some “high profile” players need the lights to be a little brighter for them to bring their best, which has everything to do with work ethic and consistency.
The best “high profile” players show up every night and they know what it takes for them and the team to be successful. That’s what makes them legit “high profile” players.
You can use all the labels you want to describe highly touted players, game breakers, young guns, future stars, but they won’t be who you think they are or live up to all of these expectations and hype until they figure out that shit for themselves.
The best “high profile” players know who they are, what it takes to deliver in any situation no matter how big the game is and how to bring that or deliver consistently.
The definition and the labels are ever changing, like the players, but the expectations stay the same.

Some “high profile” players frequently lose their passion for the game because they can’t handle the label. In many cases that label is tagged by someone else or even self imposed which undoubtedly adds even more pressure to already lofty or unattainable expectations.
