Labels Continue to Plague Minor Hockey

Wouldn’t it be great if minor hockey coaches and executives stopped labeling players.

Don’t call a line the 3rd or 4th line in front of kids, Every young kid knows the pecking order, and unfortunately the pecking order in minor hockey starts with the entitled players.

Wouldn’t be great If every minor hockey coach had good bench management? Could you imagine a players development if everyone on the roster had a shot at playing in every situation?

Why do minor hockey coaches feel so compelled to label players, why must we label kids?

Why can’t coaches provide opportunities for every player to prove themselves?

Why does the minor hockey world continue to brand players?

“Oh that’s how it was done for ever.”

That take doesn’t hold water anymore.

Unfortunately, some minor hockey coaches continue to promote elitism in a game, they believe that’s the only way to win hockey games. What if coaches empowered all of their players and made the entire roster feel valued, could you imagine what that would do to the game and the players within it!
