Sea Dogs Land Dynamic Duo in Desnoyers and Daoust?

The search for instant chemistry, character and leadership could be over for Trevor Georgie and the Saint John Sea Dogs. The 2022 Memorial Cup host could be getting the band back together after acquiring Philippe Daoust and luring him back to the junior ranks which has been confirmed by QMJHL Insider extraordinaire Mikael Lalancette.

The entire hockey world assumed the trade for Elliot Desnoyers was a done deal after Jeff Marek confirmed it last week on social media. That trade still hasn’t been officially confirmed.

Daoust and Desnoyers made up two thirds or of the best energy line/3rd line in the entire QMJHL in the 2019-2020 season with the championship caliber Moncton Wildcats. The line of Jacob Hudson, Daoust and Desnoyers created havoc for opponents. Daoust and Desnoyers play the game the right way and their versatility could give Dogs Head Coach Gordie Dwyer options. Desnoyers and Daoust can play both forward positions with relative ease.

There’s no question, one would assume Dwyer would reunite the dynamic duo right away if they were both acquired.

The addition of skilled two-way forward Philippe Daoust comes as a slight shock. The former free agent from Barrie, Ontario and Ottawa Senators draft pick signed his first pro contract with the Belleville Senators earlier this season.

All signs pointed to Daoust staying put in the AHL for the duration of the season. The Sea Dogs and Moncton Wildcats are seldom trade partners, so this indicates the urgency both organizations feel.

The Saint John Sea Dogs have potentially landed their dynamic duo.
