In a surprise move the Acadie-Bathurst Titan have traded Lane Hinkley to the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

The Riverview, New Brunswick product is a young highly touted two-way defenceman. The Titan drafted Hinkley 16th overall in 2020.
The 17 year old played 56 regular season games and 9 playoff games with the Titan over the last two seasons. The Drummondville Voltigeurs continue to build toward the future with a plethora of Maritime born talent and Hinkley will undoubtedly be a massive piece to that puzzle moving forward.
Hinkley is a solid puck moving two-zone defender who brings a strong physical element and shut down presence to any backend. Hinkley has a hard shot from the point, but it’s highly unlikely that he will light the world on fire offensively in new surroundings. Hinkley isn’t flashy, he plays the game the right way in all three zones. He could see an increase in power play time on the Volts backend. There’s no question Lane Hinkley will be a defensive stalwart for years to come on the Volts backend.
With this surprise move, the Titan still have a very solid defensive corps capable of winning a championship or two.
Some trades catch everyone off guard, this is definitely one of them. We will never know the real reason for trades especially at the junior hockey level and that’s a good thing. Each side of the trade have their reasons, all anyone can hope for is that both sides have success.
