The Defending President Cup and Memorial Cup Champions Have Been Quiet

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies have been very quiet.

After a stellar start to the 2019-2020 season the Huskies find themselves in 9th overall in the QMJHL.

That’s pretty damn respectable if you ask me.

Obviously, everyone expected the Huskies to struggle this year given their amazing success last season, but that hasn’t been the case.

In the same breath many would have also expected a tear down and a significant rebuild.

Maybe that’s still coming, but the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies have always done it the right way.

The Huskies are arguably one of the best organizations in the Q for drafting and developing, their track record and success speak for itself.

Sure the Huskies have had their share of long nights this season, and that’s to be expected, but they have obviously surpassed expectations thus far.

It’s too late for what if’s, but let’s just hypothetically look back at the Huskies this season if Noah Dobson and Jakub Lauko were sent back by the Islanders and Bruins respectively.

Would they have had enough for another run?

Clearly they would have moved Dobson for a mire bounty and they probably could have done the same for the high scoring winger from the Czech Republic or would they have been content vying for another championship?

It would have been very interesting to see how the Huskies organization would have addressed that scenario.

The big question remains why has it been so quiet on the Huskies trade front?

The Huskies have some phenomenal assets still remaining on their roster.

Perhaps Pouliot and his staff are holding out for the highest bidder?

The Huskies didn’t have the massive tear down like most contending teams because their championship team from last year was all most all homegrown.

That’s just an amazing accomplishment in this day and age.

Another burning question would have to be which contending teams are targeting Husky players?

If a team were looking to upgrade their overage situation Tyler Hinam would be a perfect candidate.

What about an upgrade on the backend? Justin Bergeron? Samuel Regis?

What about a power forward?

Alex Beaucage anyone?

What about a highly effective transitional and two-way defencemen every championship team need those types of players?

Justin Bergeron and Samuel Regis would be excellent additions to any contending team’s roster.

The core group of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies from last years squad check off all the prerequisites when it comes to playoff experience, championship character and a winning culture.

So which contending teams need players like Hinam, Bergeron, Beaucage and Regis?

What would the asking prices be on players like that?

There’s a reason why it’s been so quiet on the Huskies home front.

That’s how they have always conducted business.

Mario Pouliot and Rouyn-Noranda Huskies hold all the cards while continuing to be patience and make sure they receive the highest possible return if they decide to make significant trades.

That’s just great business sense and strategy.
