The Top 10 Moncton Wildcats of the Decade

Who are the Top 10 Moncton Wildcats of the past decade?

That’s a tough question to answer given the organizations ability to build very competitive teams over the past ten years.

The Cats have only claimed one President Cup over that time frame, which makes this year even more special.

The Wildcats are going “all in” this season in hopes of landing the elusive Memorial Cup which still hasn’t been hoisted by the organization.

Obviously, when compiling any Top 10 list there’s always going to be cause for debate, so here goes nothing!

10 David Savard

Savard was an integral component of arguably the best defensive corps ever assembled in the Hub City.

Savard’s versatility and compete level were off the charts, they still are.

David Savard could possibly be one of the best Wildcat defencemen of all time. It’s hard to believe he’s slotted in at the ten spot, but from a decade perspective Savard moved on to the pro ranks after the President Cup Championship so that’s why I have ranked where he is.

9 Marek Hrivik

There’s no question Marek Hrivik was a standout, he was an outstanding player with phenomenal offensive range and versatility.

Hrivik was an impact player for all three seasons with the Cats.

8 Nicola Riopel

Rio was the man! In many ways he still is!

Nic Riopel’s return to the Wildcats was critical for the team’s President Cup victory in 2009-2010.

Rio was a fan favourite and still considers his time in Hub City as his most memorable of his career.

7 Jeremy McKenna

The Summerside Sniper has been an scoring machine over his time with the Cats. McKenna’s offensive output and production has been a massive factor leading the Cats back to a championship caliber team.

McKenna will go down as one the purest most lethal snipers in Wildcats history.

6 Allain Saulnier and Alex Saulier

They count as one!

The East Coast Sedin’s still go down in Hub City hockey lore for their incredible chemistry and offensive instincts. The Saulnier twins numbers are truly remarkable.

Their impact on the Wildcats organization and this region will be talked about for the decades to come.

5 Jakob Pelletier

The diminutive forward from Quebec City will go down as arguably one of the best and most complete Moncton Wildcat forward ever when it’s all said and done. Jakob Pelletier was the saviour of the Moncton Wildcats.

You see Jakob Pelletier and Brandon Gormley were the cornerstone.

The foundation in which you build a contender!

Pelletier turned the entire Wildcats franchise around.

During the Wildcats darkest times, the Calgary Flames 1st rounder was the one ray of light.

The one player you could always count on to lead the way!

4 Alex Dubeau

Alex Dubeau came to play every night!

Dubeau’s stats alone speak for themselves. The diminutive star netminder defined the odds and proved a lot of critics wrong during his time in Moncton.

Dubeau will go down as one of the best ever to patrol the crease for the Cats

3 Brandon Gormley

Brandon Gormley was the cornerstone. A critical piece of a rebuild and championship.

Gormley has to be considered when mentioning the organizations best defender of all time.

The proud Islander will be forever remembered as the cornerstone of the Cats championship run in 2009-2010.

2 Ivan Barbashev

Ivan Barbashev is a Stanley Cup Champion

Ivan Barbashev learned how to play the North American game with the Cats.

Barbashev grew as a player and person during his time with the Cats, but you could always count on getting the young Russians best every time he stepped on the ice especially during his final years with the Cats.

Ivan Barbashev may not of hoisted the President Cup during his time with the Cats, but he will be forever remembered as one of the best import players to ever put on the Wildcats jersey.

1 Conor Garland

Shipping up to Moncton

There’s no question Conor Garland is the best Wildcat in the last decade and arguably best ever to put on the jersey.

The highly skilled diminutive kid from Boston, Mass. became a super star during his time in the Hub City.

Garland’s growth and maturity as a player and person on and off the ice is truly inspirational and undoubtedly one of the main reasons why he is having so much success at the NHL level.

Conor Garland has proved all the critics wrong while endearing himself to the city, organization and league at every stop along the way.

Unwavering passion, skill, and determination define every single player on the list and Conor Garland epitomizes them all.
