Torchetti Rejoins Wildcats

Multiple sources Monday evening confirmed John Torchetti would be rejoining the Moncton Wildcats today.

Torchetti was on the ice for practice today at the Avenir Centre.

At 2:35 pm today TVA’s Mikael Lalancette tweeted out the following confirming Torchetti’s return.

The Wildcats released a statement at roughly 9:30pm Sunday night saying that Torchetti was on a leave of absence for personal reasons.

Torchetti took over the Wildcats on January 16, 2019 and led them to a monumental first round upset over the Baie-Comeau Drakkar before bowing out to arch rivals the Halifax Mooseheads in the second round of the President Cup Playoffs

Initial reports said that the former NHL bench boss met with Wildcats President Mr Robert Irving Friday night after the team’s 8-5 victory over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.

Rumours and speculation of a possible falling out between the two spread like wildfire late Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning when Torchetti didn’t make the trip to Cape Breton for Sunday’s matinee vs the Eagles.

The Wildcats are currently tied for 1st overall in the QMJHL and 2nd in the latest Canadian Hockey League ranking.

Torchetti has done a tremendous job since his arrival in the Hub City.

Torchetti’s system is very effective. He continues to identify players roles and sets them up to have success within those roles.

The Cats forward group is playing inspired hockey while the defensive corps is very accountable in all three zones and all effective puck movers.

With the QMJHL Trade Period opening in less than two weeks the Moncton Wildcats are now confronted with the daunting task of adding the right blend of grit, skill and character into an already extremely close knit group.

Things should get very interesting over the next two weeks as the team tries to build a Memorial Cup caliber team.

The Wildcats leave tomorrow morning for a three game road trip in Quebec.
