It was rivalry week in the NB high school football league and it was another good one. The 3 annual bowl games featured lots of action. There were some lop sided scores in some games but according to the fan bases, these games were still a pleasure to watch. The weekend game were a bit over shadowed by yet another NBIAA ruling story that featured the top team in the province, the Tantramar Titans. It was rules that one of the players on the Titans roster was ineligible and that may result in the Titans losing 3 of their victories this season. (It will result in that… – Producer AJ)
As of this morning, the website still has the Titans as 5-0 so I will need to stick with that for now. The Titans are still the team to beat, as victorious over the Moncton High Purple Knights 35-0 on Friday night. The other Division 1 games saw the Fredericton Black Kats edge cross town rival Leo Hayes 15-13 in the annual North South Bowl game. The Riverview Royals travelled to Saint John on Friday night and won 31-2 against the Saint-John High School Greyhounds. If the Titans do lose 3 of their victories, it could seriously mix up the playoff picture but we will need to wait on the NBIAA’s next move. (not really, and are you sure? – Producer AJ)
Division 2 saw L’Odyssee remain undefeated as they beat the Mathieu-Martin Matadors 38-0 in the annual Acadie Bowl football game. The Matadors did receive a scare when star Linebacker Xavier Malone went down early in the first quarter with an injury. The Matadors staff has informed me that Xavier is doing well and it was more precautionary than anything, we should see him back in action sooner than later. The other games saw the St. Stephen Spartans get a big victory in the annual Nick Desilets Memorial Homecoming game by a score of 14-13 over the Oromocto High school Blues. The Kennebecasis valley Crusaders beat the Simonds Seabees 50-0 on Friday night, the ecole Sainte-Anne Castors got back to their winning ways 35-6 over St. Malachy’s and the Harrison Trimble Trojans continued to impress with a hard fought 10-6 victory over the Bernice McNaughton Highlanders. This division is going to be interesting come playoff time and I think we will see some upsets down the road, stay tuned folks!
The 9-man division saw the annual River Bowl football game in Miramichi and the result was a little bit surprising. I would say that I would have expected this game to be a lot closer but the James M. Hill Tommies blanked Miramichi Valley Pulamoo 38-0. The other games saw the Sussex Sonics remain undefeated with a 39-0 victory over the Hampton Huskies and the Rothesay Redhawks got a victory over the Harbor View Vikings 43-6 in the final game of the weekend.
This is the final week of the regular season for the 2nd division but we still have 2 weeks left of the 1st division and also the 9 man as the hurricane had cancelled a few of the week 1 matchups. Lots of football left to play!
