FDS LOCAL: NB HS FOOTBALL WEEK 2 PREDICTIONS

The first week in New Brunswick high school football league year was exciting to say the least. The biggest shock of the weekend was easily the Miramichi Valley Pulamoo coming away with a big 16-14 win over their cross river rival James. M Hill Tommies on Saturday afternoon. What turned out to be the league’s first annual “Hurricane Bowl”. The game was a wet one that really forced both teams to keep the ball on the ground all afternoon long. For the most part it was business as usual as most games were played on Friday night except a few that were postponed. I have tried to do some research and find out when these games are being played but no data has been made available. I have heard one rumour that the games will be pushed back to next Tuesday so that may be the case.

This week’s biggest statement was easily the Sainte –Anne Castors coming away with a convincing victory over the former 10-man champion St. Stephen Spartans by a score of 58-0. The Tremblay brothers were dominant as usual and teamed up for 4 touchdowns. The Sainte-Anne defence was surprised when the Spartans come out in 5 WR offence which is a complete change from the option style they had been running in the past. They were able to shut the Spartans down and out, which is a very impressive thing to do for a 2nd year program in Sainte-Anne.

The other games Featured L’Odyssee blanking out St. Malachy’s 34-0 in a game that many thought the Saints would win. Devin Niles and his experienced offence had other plans and produced the numbers expected. This offence has many weapons and should become better as time goes on. Bernice McNaughton beat the KVHS Crusaders 9-3 in another surprising result according to people around the NBIAA. The highlanders have matured this season and with the coaching staff this school has in place, they are always a team to watch. Harrison Trimble flexed its muscles against a rebuilding Mathieu Martin Matadors squad, beating them by a 37-0 score. The Trojans looked good in their exhibition game against the Olympiens and are always a very capable team that is no stranger to deep post season runs. The final game on the schedule saw the Oromocto Blues improve to 1-0 with 22-6 victory over the Simonds Seabees of Saint John.

This week will see the Opening of Division 1 play with 3 very entertaining games scheduled. Our 3 analysts finished the weekend in decent shape as this would be easily the toughest week to predict.  Let’s see what they think about the games this week.
