Fantasy Football Kick Off

I was at the golf course on Saturday morning with GiniB, her father, and my Men’s night partner Marty Wry. Mid way through the round we stopped into the club house and saw a bunch of shady guys talking about their morning game at Mountain Woods Golf course. With a gleam in his eye, Roger Leblanc said to me “it’s almost time for the draft!!!”

I remember when I first started playing fantasy football. I had my first draft on my pc connected to “Dial-Up” internet, where a simple phone call could make you loose your connection and then, a draft pick… The dreaded phone call!!

Our group of guys lead by Dave Fries, then decided to make an Annual draft trip to the Tobique River in Plaster Rock, NB where we had a great set up through a guy in our league. These drafts were legendary and some of the picks were as well. We were a 12 man league and things couldn’t be better. Until we introduced Money into the league that is!!! Now guys had to actually start setting their rosters, learning what the waiver wire was, and how to negotiate a trade., Also, how to plan weeks ahead, how to make a decision with your gut vs your heart, and how not take the Wray Dunn offer of a Kicker for your starting QB!! Yes, it’s amazing how Fantasy Football has adapted since the beginning. Now there is so much talk about Standard, PPR, Defensive Players, no kickers, flex, auction, reserves, injured reserve, etc…

Then other leagues started forming and next thing I knew, I was part of multiple leagues of all different formats. It was so crazy I barely had enough time to focus on my Buffalo Bills, which might not have been a bad thing looking back!!

I always love the discussions of who should go first overall… IN FACT, I love when my pick is in the top 5 and I start trying to influence the top 4 and who should go first overall… I will never forget when I got a Giants fan to select OBJ first overall leaving A. Brown to me at second…A championship year started with that pick!

So here we are in 2018, fantasy is right around the corner and I need to start figuring out who is going to be on my rosters this year… The last couple years have not been stellar  for me in fantasy, so this year is the year to turn it around… Do I stock up on RB’s or WR’s, this is always the big question. Last year I was loaded at WR’s but no running backs and that cost me in the playoffs. Plus, in both my leagues I was drafting in the back end of the first round.

You will start to hear so called experts throwing out the names of Le’Veon Bell, Todd Gurley, David Johnson, Antonio Brown, Ezekiel Elliot, Saquon Barkley, Alvin Kamara, Julio Jones and so on… And as any experienced fantasy football player know, one if not two of them will turn out to be a BUST!!!

The podcast will be doing our top 10 fantasy positions again very soon, and we welcome your feedback as there is nothing better than fantasy debates in the month of August!!

I assume most of you know when and where your drafts are for the upcoming season, The ITRZ led by Dave Frise has not even sent out an email as of yet….. once again turning into a debacle!!

Frise

Good Luck with your Drafts!!
