Video Isn’t Worth Shit, If there’s No Feedback

You can watch all the video you want, but if you don’t know what you’re doing wrong and there’s no feedback being provided from the coach then really what’s the point?
Video isn’t worth shit if there’s no feedback.
We are living in a world of visual learners, they need to see it, before they can learn it. Clearly, that’s why it’s critical to provide specific and measurable feedback in a way that caters to each player’s needs.
Countless organizations and leagues are using and paying big money for video platforms, in the hopes or under the assumption that it’s another layer of development for players, but in many cases there’s no follow through and no feedback being provided by coaches.
Some coaches will make excuses that “players these days don’t have the attention span” or “even if we show it to them they still won’t get it” Isn’t that what coaches are supposed to do, teach and reinforce, that comes with the territory doesn’t it?
“It’s on them to watch it and fix the mistakes, they should know what they are doing wrong by now.” Every coach has the ability to step up and change the mindset and change the way they teach and coach the game.
You want to talk about disservice to players, providing zero reinforcement or constructive criticism to them that’s no doubt the ultimate.

You want to know why kids can’t process or think the game nowadays, well that’s one massive reason, obviously they don’t watch it anymore, but when they watch themselves they haven’t got the slightest clue what they did wrong.
Now if the young elite player isn’t receptive to the video reinforcement, or pulling their weight then their time on ice should be reduced drastically especially in situational play, then perhaps the message would be sent loud and clear just how important video really is.
Are there any students of the game anymore? They are about as rare as quality in game and video reinforcement.
We talk about what separates players endlessly, but what about the great separator between coaches. Obviously, everyone would point to communication or X’s and O’s, well reinforcement and providing quality instruction and breaking shit down to the players level is what coaching is all about.
Video isn’t worth shit, if there’s no feedback.
Coaching isn’t worth shit, if there’s no feedback.
The player isn’t worth shit, if there’s no buy in.
Are the leagues getting their money’s worth by having all this video for the players coaches and parents?
How often does your kid do video work with their coaches?
Is it 1-1 or with the group?
How often does your kid watch hockey?
How often does your kid watch their games and individual shifts?
Perhaps more questions should be asked when it comes to this aspect of development?
How much are these video platforms costing the league and associations?
