Tendencies, Excuses and Bullshit

In this day and age, young athletes can see through a lot of things.

They know when someone is making excuses, they can see tendencies and they can spot bullshit from a mile away.

The game has changed so have the players, but when it comes to excuses, tendencies and bull shit, that’s pretty much on par.

If the game of hockey teaches you anything it’s a good judge of character.

You can only make excuses, showcase your half assed tendencies and bull shit so long before word gets out. You see the game has always and will continue to reward character and integrity.

Tendencies among athletes and coaches are some of the greatest indicators of present and future success or failure.

The ability to commit to and trust your culture and philosophy as a coach and not buckle under pressure from outside forces is definitely one tendency that most young coaches fail to accomplish right away, that aspect of the job takes reps, experience and tons of communication.

As for athletes, tendencies in practice reveal themselves time and time again in game situations. Show me a coach that makes excuses and doesn’t hold everyone equally accountable and I’ll show you players that are quick to throw out excuses hand over fist.

Again tendencies reveal so much.

When there’s a lack of ownership and if that starts from the top down, any organization is going to struggle and will never and I mean never fully get where they want to go.

Tendencies within the game plan or style of play surfaces early, if things don’t go well or to plan, that’s when the excuses occur, then when all else fails that’s when the bullshit starts to fly.

Have you driven past a farm or live close to one in the country when they’re fertilizing or spreading manure? Well the bullshit surrounding a team gets thrown around just as fast as the farmer spreads and with the similar precision.

Excuses, tendencies and bullshit the order of operations vary from time to time, but the hockey world is no stranger to that line combination. Oh speaking of lines, be prepared to hear all of the hockey cliches because they will starting floating to surface just as fast.

Athletes these days make excuses, they definitely have their share of tendencies and can also throw around the bull shit. Wow, I wonder where they learned that behaviour?

People these days can see through the bullshit, poor tendencies and excuses. Years of experience in the game can teach you a lot of things about yourself and others.

Those life lessons help you navigate the game and the people.

Excuses, Tendencies and Bullshit. Good luck trying to decipher all of it, and just remember the game and those within aren’t always like that.

There’s some amazing people out there, when you find them you will know, those are the hockey people you want to be around!

No excuses, great tendencies and absolutely zero bullshit!
