Wildcats Searching For Cohesion

When a team is mired in a losing streak or playing an uninspired brand of hockey everyone is quick to try to identify or pinpoint the issue or root cause. Opinions are like noses everyone has one, so the fleury of prognostication revolving around the Moncton Wildcats right now resembles that of the last two storm systems that hit Nova Scotia.

In recent years the Wildcats faithful have seen their share of “storms” when it comes to February losing streaks. Call it the dog days of winter or the winter blues, the Cats have struggled in the second half of the last two seasons.

If one was to look at the tendencies over time, one could say the writing was on the wall.

Are the Wildcats a young team? Yes

Have the Wildcats struggled to “start on time”? Yes

Do the Wildcats give up a lot of shots and struggle defensively? Yes

Do the Wildcats have a solid offensive team? Yes

Do the Wildcats boast a very fast transitional team? Yes

Do the Wildcats lack cohesion right now? Yes

That’s what we do know, now let’s look at what we don’t. Well we can’t because we have zero clue what goes on behind the scenes day in day out.

It’s easy to see aspects of a losing streak or poor play on the ice, but that’s all superficial.

When teams have success, there’s cohesion. Things appear to be stuck in a good way or solidified, meaning everything is firmly in place, everyone is on the same page. When poor play sneaks into that equation, the cohesive bond Is tested, sometimes it sticks and sometimes it slightly rips. On those occasions if the bond is durable enough it’s easy mended. It would appear from a far that the Moncton Wildcats are searching to find anything that sticks right now so they can repair the rips within their game.

How can the Moncton Wildcats get reconnected and rediscover their cohesion?

The answer to that question can only be answered by everyone involved with the team, everyone in that dressing room, not the critics or prognosticators, the team and the team alone.

Somethings stick, others don’t.

When a team is mired in a losing streak there’s one thing for sure, the players have to stick together to figure things out.
