Time Is A Nightmare

Time, an aspiring Jr hockey players worst nightmare, everyone is in a rush to get there, but when they have arrived they want everything to slow down.

Projecting young players to see where they’re going to be at 19 is extremely difficult, but that’s the job.

The questions remain where are they going to be at 19 and 20?

Why aren’t they developing quick enough?

What’s taking so long?

Everyone is in a rush, to get there, but no one is willing to patient enough to celebrate the player and the adversity that they faced along the way when they finally arrive.

“They are what we thought they would be.”

Where are they going to be at 19?

What about reframing the question, where are they going to be at 20?

Well, if they aren’t prolific enough, those quality 19’s won’t be in the league at all.

In the rush to get there, players don’t really appreciate or reflect on their path to where they’re today, because there’s no time for that.

There’s no time to reflect on anything, it’s all about “default programming” and focus on the next game.

By the time a player gets to their 19 year in the league, the writing is on the wall for the following season.

“Oh we will know what our direction will be in a matter of time,” says the default organizational phrase after the season.

19 year olds are in constant flux between being relieved versus stressed to the max about their overage year.

You see time is uncertainty for 19’s.

Time erodes the passion of a lot junior aged kids.

It’s just a matter of time before a vast majority of players experience and feel that.

“Oh, that’s part of the business, so you better get used to it.”

Well, it takes time to get used to it doesn’t it.

Time is a nightmare for junior aged players.

Organizations that address the time factor and provide players with the help they need on and off the ice will do a large part in slowing things down, so it’s more manageable for everyone. You see those organizations are successful on and off the ice. They develop players and people, they deepen the passion of their players instead of stepping on it.

We all know time is a factor in junior hockey, everything revolves around time. Some want to speed it up, others want to slow it down to a snails pace.

Time will tell the story.
