Observations From the Rink 2023 Monctonian Challenge Edition Day 3 and 4

A “shit ton” of hockey

A lot of scouts leave showcase tournaments after Saturday’s action to make the trek home. It’s never lost on scouts the amount of sacrifice and toll these players go through to these types of events.

In some cases teams played four games in 25 or 26 hours. There’s absolutely no way for the body to fully recuperate after something like that.

It’s the players that think the game that jump off the page in the later stages of any showcase tournament like the Monctonian. Today champions will be crowned, the real winner in all of this is the game itself.

Believe it or not, the game is a good place right in this region. Obviously, there’s always room for growth especially from a cultural perspective, but showcase tournaments are great place to start.

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, best of luck the rest of way.

They Earned It, They Belong

You may have not seen them play, but their impact will leave a lasting impression on the game.

You see they earned it and you can bet your ass they belong. Over the years the Monctonian Challenge has been witness to some great performances by young women trying to challenge and push themselves to entirely new heights within the game.

“Playing with the boys” has been something all of these young girls have heard coming up through the ranks.

Each and everyone one of them are trailblazers in the game. Their journeys inspire the next crop of young talented girls to believe “if they did it, so can I.”

You might see their names on the roster and you might hear “oh that team has a girl on it,” but you better believe they have earned it and do they ever belong.

Showcase tournaments are stepping stones for a lot young players, but they can also be monumental groundbreaking events for others.

I some them play this weekend, did you?

To all the young women that are pushing to play at the highest level, never stop, and never fear the space between your dreams and reality.

Go get it, you earned it and you belong.

Coming Together

There’s nothing like it, winning a massive tournament.

“I love it when a plan comes together.” The A Team’s Hannibal

Showcase tournaments always have a number of storylines, but the most memorable are always those that see teams come together at the right time and play inspired hockey.

Some teams are expecting it and prepare for it while others shock the hockey world and peak at the right time to rise above. It’s great to see teams come together and accomplish something great, when teams come together early on in a season, they always find a way to be successful.

We all saw a lot of teams come together and grow this weekend. Walking past the photographer table this weekend, I saw something that I haven’t seen before, team photos at tournaments like this, what a great idea to capture a moment in time especially when a team perhaps came together and did something special like winning the Monctonian Challenge.

It’s Championship Sunday and best of luck to all of the teams making a push to claim a championship.
