#InFocusQPreview: The 2023-2024 Cape Breton Eagles “It’s Now or Never”

“It’s now or never.”

Well that’s not exactly true, but the passionate fanbase of the Cape Breton Eagles are getting short on patience. Sylvain Courturier has fast tracked the franchise’s efforts to rebuild and become contenders after making some significant trades and with the addition of some highly talented draft picks. Courturier has faced his fair share of criticism over the years for being extremely active on the trade market, but you would be hard pressed to find a more savvy GM that truly knows what his team needs to go the distance and win championships.

The Eagles are definitely ahead of schedule and will be a sleeper team this season. They will have one of the best D-corps in the Q, but will need stability and consistency between the pipes to reach their full potential. Their netminding tandem will no doubt provide that this season. When organizations try to hit the reset button too fast there are always some unexpected setbacks or bumps a long way. The Eagles had some very tough nights and tons of ups and downs a season ago. The organization has made a lot of changes and perhaps the biggest and most significant being behind the bench. Louis Robitaille is a perfect fit for this organization right now and for years to come. He’s the perfect blend of old school and new school, meaning he will hold every player accountable, while also setting them up in positions to succeed. He’s a great teacher of the game. Matt Anthony returns to coach a tremendously underrated gritty backend. Anthony and Robitaille will be a great coaching tandem for a team that will have tons of pressure and high expectations placed on them in the 2023-2024 season. The entire coaching staff will get the most out of every player and they will identify and set every player top to bottom up for success.

Look for the Eagles to surprise a lot of teams and the league this season. There will be no easy games in Cape this season. The Eagles will be a tough team to play against. It wouldn’t be a stretch to see Courturier work his magic as well to ensure the Eagles make a strong impression throughout the season and into the playoffs.

The Cape Breton Eagles have to take a big step this year and everyone knows it. It might be incredibly unfair to say it’s now or never for the Eagles, but the pressure is on in Cape Breton for their team to take flight!
